Thom Yorke ended his show at the Roundhouse in London on Friday 8 June alone at the piano with “Spectre”, the song Radiohead wrote for the 2015 Bond film and saw turned down, and dedicated it to bandmates who were in the hall. musicOMH names them as Jonny Greenwood and Phil Selway, DIY as Jonny and Colin Greenwood.

I woke up one morning and they said ‘We’d like you to write a Bond theme…’

, Yorke began, laughing, before he played it. It was the only time since the opener, “Interference”, that he had sat at the piano. Rolling Stone Italia had already reported him closing the Milan show with it on 29 May.

The Roundhouse was the London date of his Tomorrow's Modern Boxes tour of Europe, billed as a live mix. Nigel Godrich was on stage with Yorke and Tarik Barri made the visuals live from a bank of computers.

The unreleased songs ran all through the set, from “Impossible Knots” near the start to “The Axe”, which Yorke first played in Florence on 28 May, in the first encore. Older songs were reworked. “The Clock”, from The Eraser, came out heavier and led by the bass, and Godrich remade “Nose Grows Some”. The crowd sang along to “Black Swan”. Nothing from Yorke's Suspiria score was played.

He switched between modular synth and guitar, worked a loop pedal hard and stepped to the front of the stage to pose for photographs, but he barely spoke all night. His last words, asking whether that had been all right, were lost in the noise.
