Thom Yorke sets fans hunting for 400 hidden coins

Thom Yorke posted on Instagram this morning that there are 400 coins scattered across the world buried in earth, stone, shadow¹, and asked anyone who finds one to tell “the forger”. Some fans on Reddit say they found theirs tucked inside the deluxe vinyl of Tall Tales.

The hunt belongs to that record, Yorke's album with Mark Pritchard, out on Warp a week ago with a coin on its cover, and Pritchard has posted a video about the coins on YouTube.

The link in Yorke's bio leads through a landing page called Waste Headquarters to The Forger's Ledger, a grid of the 400 numbered coins with the found ones marked.

The coins are real metal, made by a smith. The AV Club found coins already logged as far apart as Vermont and New Zealand, and some of the same Reddit users point to an Instagram account that seems to show where others are hidden.
