Song · The Bends era (1994–96)
Lozenge of Love
Two minutes of acoustic guitar, with a title taken from Philip Larkin's word for the moon.
1993–94
larkin
The phrase is Larkin's, from “Sad Steps”, where he stands at a window in the middle of the night and calls the moon a “lozenge of love”. Larkin is a favourite of Jonny Greenwood's.
Yorke and Greenwood played an early version as a duo in Nancy, France, in June 1993, and the finished recording went onto the first of the two “My Iron Lung” CD singles in 1994. It is short and almost entirely acoustic, and beyond that there is very little on record about it.
