Colin Greenwood all but confirms the album is called Kid A

written up for the archive

Colin Greenwood has as good as confirmed that Radiohead's new album is called Kid A. Backstage at the Royal Festival Hall in London on Saturday, nme.com put the industry talk of the title to him, and he could not quite stop agreeing. That's a very good guess, yes! I think that's pretty good! I think so, yeah.1

The album is mastered and should be out at the end of September, he says. He named six songs that are on it, the title track and “Motion Picture Soundtrack” among them, with four to six more to come; NME adds four of its own as rumour. “Knives Out” and “Dollars And Cents”, both played on the European tour, are not on it.

Greenwood says the band have many other recordings they want out soon, as a piece of work in its own right and not just spread over EPs, though a long record or a double album was ruled out as boring.

The Royal Festival Hall show was part of Scott Walker's Meltdown festival and the band's only British date of the summer. They did it out of love for Walker, Greenwood says, and it made no commercial sense; after the stress of the last tour they would rather play other people's summer festivals than a big rock tour of their own. We were all very scared because it was very important to us.1
