Colin Greenwood, Phil Selway and Ed O'Brien talk to ARTE

first posted on Treefingers by Miro · rewritten for the archive

The television channel ARTE has two Radiohead videos on its Music Planet 2Nite pages. The first is an interview, six minutes and 25 seconds long, with Colin Greenwood, Phil Selway and Ed O'Brien, filmed by Cécile Rosevaigue while the programme was being recorded at Le Reservoir in Paris. The second, just under six minutes, is rehearsal footage from before the concert.

The page also carries a French transcript. Asked about their first time on stage, O'Brien remembers playing a recorder at school in a panic, Selway says that at ten he preferred kissing girls, and Greenwood dates the first time they all played together to the Jericho Tavern in Oxford, where, he admits, he was drunk.

Selway says Hail to the Thief is the album on which he found out he really loves being a musician. O'Brien says Thom Yorke changed the way he writes after OK Computer, when he found how closely people read his words, and is now comfortable with that attention again.

Selway no longer reads the press. The praise for OK Computer felt out of all proportion to him, and a bad review he thinks unfair gets him down.
