Radiohead close their British tour at the Hammersmith Apollo with nine new songs

written up for the archive

Radiohead ended their British tour with two nights at the Hammersmith Apollo in London, and on the second, 19 May, nine of the 23 songs were unreleased. Before “Open Pick”, Thom Yorke told the crowd Some of the new stuff we have got is pretty sketchy at the moment. We have got to sort it all out.1

The first night, 18 May, opened with “Videotape”, the first time the band had played it together, and brought in “I Want None of This”, which was not on the printed setlist.

On the 19th, NME reported, Yorke sat at the piano for “Videotape” and “Go Slowly”, and “Spooks” came as an instrumental. The same report had part of the crowd already singing along to “Bangers + Mash”, a song with no record behind it yet, and “House of Cards” getting a short clap-along.

The band were in good spirits, nine days after the Amsterdam show of 10 May was called off when Phil Selway's mother died. When a bra landed on the stage during “Idioteque”, Yorke wanted to know What's that for? Is it my birthday today?1
