Radiohead close V Festival's Chelmsford night with “Creep”

Radiohead headlined the V Stage at Hylands Park in Chelmsford on Saturday 19 August and ended the night on “Creep”, alone in the second encore. It was the song's first outing of the 2006 tour and its first anywhere since Coachella on 1 May 2004, and the field sang it back. NME picks that singalong as the best moment of the night.

This was their first British festival since they headlined Glastonbury on 28 June 2003. Thom Yorke had told the paper's website that seeing Franz Ferdinand and Dizzee Rascal at V the year before made the band want to play it, and that it was a chance to remind themselves of their past. V runs on two sites with one bill, so they play Weston Park in Staffordshire on Sunday.

Most of the 23 songs came from The Bends, OK Computer and Kid A, and the first encore ended with “True Love Waits” running into “Everything in Its Right Place”. “Just” went down big, and it was the song the paper's readers had voted the one they most wanted to hear, in a poll at the end of July.

Three songs were new. “Bodysnatchers” and “Nude” have been in the set since May, and “All I Need” since Chicago on 20 June; NME says all three are for an album due next year.
