Scottish Ballet to premiere a Radiohead ballet in Edinburgh
Scottish Ballet will give the premiere of Ride the Beast, a new piece by the American choreographer Stephen Petronio set entirely to Radiohead recordings, at the Edinburgh International Festival. The performances are at the Edinburgh Playhouse from 18 to 20 August.
It opens with “Fitter Happier”, from OK Computer. The other four are “Hunting Bears” from Amnesiac, “Idioteque” and “The National Anthem” from Kid A, and the acoustic “Creep” from the My Iron Lung EP.
Petronio has set dances to Rufus Wainwright, Wire, Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed before. I have to live with music so intimately while creating with it, I simply have to work with music I love.
2 They sail through genre and form effortlessly and passionately and their music demands a physical response from me that bypasses reason.
