EMI to reissue Pablo Honey, The Bends and OK Computer with B-sides and a DVD
EMI/Capitol announced on Wednesday 14 January expanded editions of Pablo Honey, The Bends and OK Computer, due in March. Each album comes as a two-CD Collectors Edition, the original record plus a disc of B-sides, demos and BBC sessions, or as a Special Collectors Edition that adds a DVD. Capitol has them out in the US on 24 March; British reports give 23 March, the Monday of the same week. Capitol has also said it will press 12 of the singles on vinyl in April.
The band had no part in the reissues. EMI, the label they left in 2007, still owns their records up to Hail to the Thief, and put out Radiohead: The Best Of against their wishes last June. Most of the press coverage has been sceptical.
When Pitchfork asked Colin Greenwood about The Best Of last March, he did not rule out a look back done well. I would love for us to have people check out what we've done before in a cool way if they haven't already got it.
1 But the band were not on that road, he said, and there would be no two-disc The Bends of alternate takes, because the other versions were no good.
The DVDs split the band's concert at the London Astoria on 27 May 1994 in two, half on the Pablo Honey set and half on The Bends, so the whole show means buying both. It has been out on video since 1995 and on DVD since 2005. Studio recordings of “Lift”, “Big Boots” and “True Love Waits”, which fans have long asked for, are on none of the three.
