Tarik Barri previews City Rats, his Hexadome piece with Thom Yorke
Tarik Barri has posted a short fragment of City Rats, new music he has made with Thom Yorke, on Vimeo. Every sound in the piece is an object in three-dimensional space. Where the camera sits decides what is heard and from which side, so its path through the space makes the harmonies and the rhythms.
City Rats is built for the ISM Hexadome, a 360-degree ring of six screens and 54 loudspeakers that Berlin's Institute for Sound and Music has run at the Martin-Gropius-Bau since 29 March. The whole piece is shown there on Saturday 21 April, the day before the Hexadome closes.
Barri, who made the visuals for Atoms for Peace's concerts, announced this one on Twitter in February.
I'll be creating an AV composition in 3D, with [Thom Yorke] singing in my virtual “Versum” universe. This will be presented in AV surround in the Hexadome
