Radiohead's first Peru show ends with “Creep” and “Karma Police”

written up for the archive

Radiohead played Peru for the first time on Tuesday 17 April, at the Estadio Nacional in Lima, five months after the show was announced. It was billed as the SoundHearts Festival, with the Peruvian band Mundaka, then Junun and Flying Lotus, ahead of them. The stadium lights went down at a minute to nine and the band opened with “Daydreaming”. They said little all night beyond “muchas gracias”. The full setlist is on the show page.

Miguel Rocca, reviewing the night for El Comercio, names “No Surprises”, “Nude” and “Street Spirit (Fade Out)” from the main set. The first encore opened with “Fake Plastic Trees”, with the whole stadium singing, and ended with “Idioteque”, where the crowd could hear something going wrong with Jonny Greenwood's synthesiser. Thom Yorke covered it by telling them that these things sometimes happen, and got a laugh.

The second encore began with “Creep”, which Rocca calls the song fans argue about and everyone wanted to hear anyway. The night ended on “Paranoid Android” and “Karma Police”.
