Radiohead play “Hunting Bears” on their last night in Berlin

Radiohead closed their four nights at the Uber Arena in Berlin, and the German leg of the tour, on Friday 12 December with a rarity, slipping “Hunting Bears”, the short instrumental from Amnesiac, in just before “Bodysnatchers”. None of the 17 shows before it on the tour had it.

The band have played it in Berlin before. On 11 September 2001, at the Parkbühne Wuhlheide, it came as a coda to “The National Anthem”, on the night news of the attacks in the United States reached the show. Sassan Niasseri of Rolling Stone Germany doubts this year's choice was meant as a tribute to that date.

A severe throat infection had forced the band to postpone the first two Copenhagen nights, now moved to 15 and 16 December to close the tour, and in Berlin, Niasseri says, Thom Yorke's voice held up with one exception. Early in “No Surprises” it gave out. Yorke tried to clear his throat, then took the song back to the top, so the first minute was played twice, and the crowd cheered the restart.
