Thom Yorke raised a toast to the protesters at Genoa, who had come out against the G8 summit there last month, when Radiohead played a sold-out Madison Square Garden in New York on Tuesday night. Another went to people who had bought electric cars to spite the oil companies. The New York Daily News reports that most of the night's dedications went to people holding out against consumer culture,. Yorke also mocked people who put on leopard skin to walk down Fifth Avenue, and laid into record labels that make bands court radio stations for airplay.

Jonny Greenwood and Ed O'Brien played the electronics of Kid A and Amnesiac live, often kneeling on the stage to get at the knobs of old synthesisers and effects units. The reviewer found the first half distant, with “Knives Out” and “Dollars and Cents” keeping the crowd at a remove. During “You and Whose Army?” Yorke stared one of the cameras down with a challenging gesture, and the Garden roared. U2 played the same arena two months ago, and to the reviewer they sounded like a band openly looking for hope, where Radiohead sounded more like an underground resistance.

The set had a verse of the unreleased “Follow Me Around” ahead of “Pyramid Song”, and “Permanent Daylight” and “Optimistic” besides. The Garden date, added to the tour in early July, ran 135 minutes and ended, in a third encore, with “Exit Music (for a Film)”.
