Radiohead get a whole Later... With Jools Holland, and play on after it
Radiohead had a whole edition of Later... With Jools Holland to themselves tonight, live on BBC2 from 10.30 to 11.30pm, and when the hour was up they kept going for another half-hour and six more songs. Thom Yorke, smiling and joking through the night, dedicated “You And Whose Army?” to everyone who decides to be a leader – especially when governments aren't really in charge anymore
1, and the last song, “The Bends”, to S Club 7, who like smokin' the weed
1.
The recording, at BBC Television Centre in London, was the band's first full concert in Britain this year; their only other British appearance of 2001 was a two-song Top of the Pops taping on 17 May. The audience were invited guests and winners of a competition on the programme's website.
Counting two songs before transmission, among them a cover of Neil Young's “Cinnamon Girl”, they played 21 in about an hour and a half. The set leaned on Amnesiac, out in Britain since Monday, and Kid A, with a few from The Bends and OK Computer. Humphrey Lyttelton came on to play his trumpet part from the record in “Life In A Glasshouse”, the album's closing track. The current single, “Pyramid Song”, came only after the cameras had stopped, along with the B-side “Talk Show Host”.
