Radiohead make it to Vaison-la-Romaine at the second attempt
Radiohead played the Theatre Antique, the Roman theatre at Vaison-la-Romaine in southern France, on Monday 28 May, and brought in “Everything in Its Right Place” with a passage of Peter Gabriel's “Here Comes the Flood”. Last June the band were booked into the same theatre for the second night of their tour, until an electrical storm and torrential rain flooded the site and the show was called off on the day for safety. Thom Yorke apologised on the band's message board in the early hours to everyone who had travelled a long way.
The show came two nights after the summer shows opened in Bilbao, the one French date announced between there and Verona. EMI France sold the night to the trade in a flyer for Amnesiac, promising a concert relayed live by satellite to 30 cities. A week before, the fan site radiohead.fr listed ten halls taking the relay, the Bataclan in Paris among them, from 9pm, when the band were due on stage. A Gorillaz concert filmed in London would be shown first, and the show would also stream on the websites of Les Inrockuptibles and Itineris. French television and radio were reported to be recording it.
“Bones” and “Bullet Proof..I Wish I Was” came back into the set for the first time this year. Both were last played at Punchestown in October.
