Radiohead played New York's Beacon Theatre on Thursday 5 June for MTV2's $2 Bill series, and ended the night with Thom Yorke alone on acoustic guitar for “True Love Waits”.

Tickets cost two dollars. The Beacon holds about 1,800, XFM reported; on their last New York visit Radiohead sold out Madison Square Garden, which seats 20,000. W.A.S.T.E., the band's mail-order and fan club, had a very small allocation, sold through an eight-hour online lottery on 27 May, and the rest went on sale at the Beacon box office on 31 May. The Strokes, Keri Russell and Elijah Wood were in the crowd.

MTV built its run-up to the American release of Hail to the Thief, on 10 June, around the night. Famous Players announced it would carry the concert by satellite to 17 of its cinemas across Canada, and a one-hour edit airs on MTV2 on Tuesday 17 June.

The set opened with “There There” and ran to 24 songs over about two and a quarter hours, with Yorke working a piece of Neil Young's “After the Gold Rush” into the start of “Everything in Its Right Place” at the end of the main set. He said little more than “Good evening”, “Hello” and “Thanks a lot”, and each one drew screams, as did his raising a bottle of water.
