The finger Thom Yorke snapped off his NME Award sells on eBay
An eBay auction of what its seller says is the middle finger from Thom Yorke's NME Award closed on 15 March at £248. The trophy is a hand with its middle finger raised, and Yorke snapped the finger off his backstage at the awards on 12 February because he found it offensive.
The seller, who is not named, says a friend saw Yorke break it off against a wall and picked it up after he walked away. The fragment is bronze-coloured metal, a little over two inches tall. The listing went up the week before, billed as a one-off piece of Radiohead memorabilia, and no bidder could tell whether it was genuine.
Radiohead won two awards that night, Best Album for Hail to the Thief and Best Video for “There There”. Jonny Greenwood was backstage with Yorke for the interviews, and did the same to his.
