OK Computer enters the Grammy Hall of Fame
OK Computer is going into the Grammy Hall of Fame. The Recording Academy has named it among 14 inductees this year, nine albums and five songs, to be honoured at a gala at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills on 8 May.
A record qualifies at 25 years old if it has qualitative or historical significance. A committee drawn from across the recording arts makes the choice, and the Academy's National Board of Trustees ratifies it. The hall was set up in 1973. Harvey Mason Jr., the Academy's chief executive, says each of this year's picks shows the creativity, craft and cultural weight a recording can carry across decades.
This year's class puts OK Computer beside Funkadelic's Maggot Brain, 2Pac's All Eyez on Me, Nick Drake's Pink Moon and Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814.
