“Motion Picture Soundtrack” gets a harp at Radiohead's Nijmegen tent

On the first of Radiohead's two nights in their touring tent at Goffertpark in Nijmegen, in the east of the Netherlands, Thom Yorke's keyboard was carried to the front in the second encore for “Motion Picture Soundtrack”, with Jonny Greenwood's keyboard set to a harp sound. Yorke was unhappy with the harp, and afterwards went over and seemed to show Jonny how to play it, though the part is Jonny's. The second night opened with “Optimistic” and “Airbag” and ended with an acoustic “Killer Cars” and “My Iron Lung”.

Sigur Ros opened, their guitarist playing with a violin bow; Yorke said in June how much he liked the record they had sent him. Andrew Pycroft, a fan reviewing the first night for musicOMH, picked “Paranoid Android” as its high point, when strip lights running up the inside of the tent came on with the loud guitars. On “Idioteque” Phil Selway drummed while Jonny added beats. “Everything In Its Right Place” closed the main set with Yorke walking off as his processed voice kept sounding round the tent. The others left one at a time, and Jonny was last, still working the voice.

“Airbag” opened the first encore. We can't top that – as much as we try we can't top that¹, Yorke told the crowd, and the band followed it with “I Might Be Wrong”, a song not yet released, Can's “Thief” and “(Nice Dream)”. “Karma Police” closed the night, with the tent singing the last line back.
