Rolling Stone's first list of the 500 greatest songs of all time, announced on 17 November, has two Radiohead songs on it. “Paranoid Android” is number 256, between Blondie's “Heart of Glass” and the Troggs' “Wild Thing”. “Fake Plastic Trees” is number 376, one place below Pink Floyd's “Another Brick in the Wall Part 2”.
Bob Dylan's “Like a Rolling Stone” is number one. The voters were 172 musicians, producers, critics and music-business people, from Brian Wilson and Joni Mitchell to Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, and each named 50 favourite songs of the rock and roll era. More than 2,000 songs were nominated.
A year ago the magazine's 500 greatest albums put The Bends above OK Computer. The songs list has only three from the 2000s, Eminem's “Lose Yourself” and “Stan” and OutKast's “Hey Ya!”, so nothing from Kid A, Amnesiac or Hail to the Thief is on it.
