The Section, a Los Angeles string quartet founded by the violinist Eric Gorfain, play all of OK Computer in his arrangements at The Sugar Club on Leeson Street in Dublin next Saturday, 27 March. It is their first show in Europe. Tickets are 21.50 euro.
The quartet have recorded Gorfain's arrangements of OK Computer and of other Radiohead songs from The Bends to Hail to the Thief. In May they play both days of the Coachella festival in California, on the same Saturday bill as Radiohead.
Gorfain, who is behind several classical tribute records to Radiohead and other bands, tells today's Irish Times that he reads what fans say about him. Occasionally, when I snoop around message boards in fan websites, we get called opportunists.
1 His answer is that the songwriters and publishers make more from the records than the players do. I'm genuinely not trying to cash in on someone else's work.

He picks music he likes and can hear working for strings. He is a fan of Radiohead and Pink Floyd, makes no claim to improve on them and wants only to present the songs in a new way. He tries to keep the groove or a hook from the original, and spends as long on structure, counter-melodies and counterpoint as on the tune. It's more what I feel I can leave out and not ruin the structure of the composition. With Radiohead's music that's always a challenge.
