Live in Buenos Aires (March 2009)

A shoe thrown from the crowd hit Thom Yorke during “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi”, the eighth song, and the band played 18 more.

2009

the opening night of Quilmes Rock

In March 2009 Radiohead took In Rainbows to South America for the first time, with Kraftwerk opening every night. After two nights in Mexico City, their first show on the continent in Rio and another in São Paulo, they came to Buenos Aires on 24 March to head the first night of the Quilmes Rock festival at Club Ciudad. It was the first time they had played in Argentina, and their only night there on the tour before two in Santiago. The DyN agency put the crowd at about 35,000; La Portuaria went on first, and Kraftwerk handed over to Radiohead at 9.20pm.

The film is the whole night, 26 songs with three encores. The second encore ended on “Everything in Its Right Place”, begun with a few lines of Tim Buckley's “Song to the Siren”. The third encore was a single song, “Creep”, which the band had left out of most of the tour and brought back in Mexico City the week before. The night's “There There” came out again in 2025, as a film to go with the live Hail to the Thief.

2009

the Day of Remembrance

In Argentina 24 March is the Day of Remembrance for Truth and Justice, the anniversary of the coup of 1976 that began the last military dictatorship, and in 2009 it was the 33rd. The band's own list of the songs in the film gives a note to one of them only. Beside “How to Disappear Completely”, the last song of the main set, it says “con dedicatoria”: with a dedication.
