Radiohead go back to the Montreal arena of their OK Computer show
Radiohead opened the first of two nights at the Centre Bell in Montreal on Monday 16 July with “Daydreaming”, in the building where they played OK Computer in 1998, when it was still the Molson Centre. Philippe Rezzonico, reviewing for Radio-Canada, saw a band that still prefers the present to the past. More than half the set came from In Rainbows, The King of Limbs and A Moon Shaped Pool. Every album since OK Computer was heard except Amnesiac, and there was no “Creep”, “Paranoid Android”, “The National Anthem”, “Pyramid Song” or “There There”.
It was their first show in the city since Osheaga in 2016. Radio-Canada counted 14,690 in the arena, which Sors-tu called sold out. “Kid A” was reworked around the two drummers, Phil Selway and Clive Deamer, and for “Bloom” Jonny Greenwood joined them on a smaller kit. Olivier Boisvert-Magnen of Voir counted “No Surprises” among the warmest ovations of the night. Thom Yorke kept his words short but thanked the crowd often, now and then in French.
Junun opened to a half-empty arena; Victor Perrin of Sors-tu blamed roadworks outside and slow queues at the doors. After two encores the night closed on “Karma Police”, with the crowd singing along.
